Hi Daphne. My name is Tom Boren, and I'm a cell servant in our church, Bethany Lutheran Church.
Our church is right in the middle of a transformation, from a traditional, PBC church, to cell church. Right now, we have four active IG cells, with multiplication coming up for one of the cells.
There has been a great need for youth cells for the young people, but also a transition from traditional Sunday School to cell-based teaching for the children. So, I was "elected" to teach "What shall we do with the children?" to those in our church who are willing to go through it...hopefully, EVERYONE involved in cell, but also reach out to those in the PBC portion of our congregation, to give them an intro to cell life.
My questions are these:
It seems this particular training comes from a pure cell church perspective. Am I right or wrong about this?

Looking at our situation at Bethany, is "What shall we do with the children?" appropriate training for our congreation? If so, should there be a "special" way to teach it, given that our church is in transition, and is not, yet, a pure cell church?

Anything else to look out for, as I prepare to teach this?
Thanks so much for your ministry to children!

P.S. I know the "password"..."As with adults!"

Many of you are logging onto this topic - but dialogue seems to be quiet. I KNOW this is a topic that many stuggle with - but it is also a topic that gets side lined with 'more imprtant issues"

Can I encourage you, if you have logged on, to let us know what your challenges are - what encourgaments you may have - or even if you disagree that this is important!!

This generation of young people and children may be the last generation to walk this earth - they may live through the last days of HIStory - and we get to train them, what a responsibility!

Lets hear from Pastors, parents, cell leaders, cell members, coaches, chidlrens and youth pastors etc - ALL of you are involved in training the next generation!

Hi Tom

Good to hear from you and I am impressed - you put a smile on my face with "as with adults"!! That should get others wondering and hopefully asking what we are talking about!

You may be interested in a posting I have just replied to about Transitioning the childrens ministry in another posting.

To answer your question- yes the training is from a "pure cell" perspective. I suggest that you start with "Reconncting the Generations" This is full of Scripture and a good introduction for anyone (PBC or cell). The Word will speak for itself and will give a good lead into the qeustion that will inevitably arise "How can we live this out?" It will give plenty you could preach or teach.

"Heirs Together has two parts. One is values based and the other the practice of the Intergenerational Cell. It forms the backbone of that section of "What shall we do with the children?" Much of the first part will be thought provoking for any member of the Body of Christ.

I hope with these two "lead ins" you will be able to take the people with you into looking at cell as a way to live this out.

If this does not answer your question - keep coming back. I willbe interested to hear how it goes!
