I have been reading the book, "Where do we go from here", and must say it is exactly what the world needs. One section describes how some have had all night prayer, prayer for hours, etc. I have often wondered if this is a "works" thing, or is God hard of hearing? Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for me. Is a 10 minute prayer worth praying at all then? Or is an all night prayer an excersize in personal pride of accomplishment, an item for boasting?

thank you

Blessings to you and your families!

Don, if you have a chance to communicate with the creator of the universe, the head of the church, the great I Am, and the King of might enjoy going more than 10 minutes. Maybe even all night.

I think long sessions of prayer are more for us to separate ourselves from our "busy" life and concentrate more on God and His holiness than for God to pay more attention to us. Long sessions of prayer for the sake of long sessions of prayer do nothing for God or us. I think long planned long prayer sessions rarely benefit anyone, unless entered into with the right frame of mind. I think rather a spontaneous event is much more likely to be beneficial to your spiritual life. To sum it up, I think your attitude toward and purpose for prayer are the most important aspects of a prayer session of any length.

Prayer is always about us getting closer to Him. Long sessions of prayer are like extended getaways with your spouse. They bring needed refreshment and closer intimacy. So many people in the Body of Christ are caught up in pornography because they don't even spend ten minutes a day with their Creator. Pornography is a counterfeit to having intimacy with God. We need the desire to have that intimacy with Him.

There is nothing more awesome than spending countless hours with the Lord, only focusing on Him. You walk away from such times with a passion to see others have this relationship and intimacy. I can hear people saying, "Don't be so spiritually minded that you are no earthly good." That is actually incorrect. We want to be so spiritual (led by the Holy Spirit) that we are seen as the only good for this Earth.

Well, that is all I have to say about that.

Seeking An Audience of One,
Richard Aronson
