Lots of pastors call TOUCH and ask where they should begin reading... there's so many books offered by TOUCH and others that it can make a pastor dizzy trying to prioritize.

Throughout the 90's, TOUCH produced four introductory books on cell life. These were published in this order:

Where Do We Go From Here? by Ralph Neighbour, Jr.
Life In His Body by David Finnell
The Second Reformation by Bill Beckham
Reap the Harvest by Joel Comiskey

All of these titles provided excellent introductions to cells, and came at the life and structure of a cell church from a different angle. The first is a fireball of a book. The second is a simplified look at cells, appropriate for all church members. The third is far more theological and historical. The fourth is based on research done in 8 cell churches around the world, including one based in the US.

In the late 90's, our ministry realized that there were "multiple front door books" for cell group ministry and pastor might become confused or bogged down in reading introductory books. So, the ministry went to work to create a new resource that would point pastors to various other books when the time was right, and provide a practical, step-by-step implementation process for the model.

That book is called Making Cell Groups Work. So if you're just starting to read about cells and would like a current guidebook that explains most every other resource on cells published today and is practical in nature, this is where you should begin.

Since then, we've released a Navigation Guide, which helps church teams discuss each stage of implementation in depth and has lots of self-assessment tools, checklists, and helpful background articles from many pastors and experts. However, it is not an expanded version of the original book... it's more of a reference tool. You'll want to get one of these when your implementation team has been formed and you are working in a particular stage of transition.

We've also just released a little booklet about the implementation process called The ABCs of Making Cell Groups Work, which is a simplified version of the first book. This is a great tool to give to deacons, elders and any lay leader who needs to know where the church is headed and how it will get there.

I hope this post helps you understand what books are out there and where to begin! As always, we're happy to help you figure out where you are and what resources, training or consulting would work best for you and your church.
