TOUCH carries excellent books on coaching small groups/cell groups. So why publish yet another one? The answer is obvious. A small book on any subject is easier to read, especially if it has information in it that other books do not focus on. That's what makes this pocket-sized book so helpful!

Coaching is all about developing deep friendships with leaders, future leaders and groups. The coach is a relational extension of the pastoral staff, and the conduit for information about leaders and groups for the small groups or cell groups pastor. The role is vital to any successful small group or cell group ministry!

By putting this little book in the hands of your coaches (or better yet, your potential coaches) you can move them into the role naturally, through the development of relationships.

The Author's Research
When the author set out to research coaching training at world-class churches, he discovered that few, if any have a coaching training track! They learn how to coach while being a group leader, and the relationships with current coaches and pastors is so strong that they naturally move into the position. What's the source of the "training"? Relationships with current coaches and pastors. With this in mind, Neighbour has done a superb job of explaining how he relates to group leaders as a friend, helping them develop others, take on new responsibilities, and even moving into the coaching role themselves.

Randall Neighbour grew up in holistic small groups (cell groups) as his father, Ralph Neighbour, Jr. experimented with groups and learned what would and would not work in a Western society. His first leadership opportunity was in high school in the 1970's, where he led a cell group. This first cell leadership experience was very fruitful—through the love and hard work of his group, six of his close friends dedicated their lives to Christ.

Randall met his wife Etna at a cell group in the mid 1980's, and were married in 1986. Since then, Etna and Randall have been leading and coaching small groups and cell groups. Today, Randall is the President of TOUCH Outreach, and serves as a Lifegroup coach at the Houston Vineyard. He is the author of Community Life 101, Are You Fishing With A Net?, and A Pocket Guide to Coaching Small Groups. He also compiled and edited 303 Icebreakers.

Randall's writing style is that of a friend, sharing truths through real-life stories of working with people. He's often humorous, and never dull.
